Bettie Lamar

December 2, 1929 — July 11, 2018

Bettie Lamar, 88, of High Point, North Carolina, formerly of Paducah, passed away at 8:20 am on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

Bettie was a long time member of Lone Oak United Methodist Church but most recently attended Covenant Methodist Church after moving to High Point. Bettie started working for WKYB Radio in 1952 and retired from WPSD-TV in 1977 as Office Manager, she also worked for Weyerhaeuser Timber Company from 1957 until 1962 while living in Louisville, Kentucky. After retiring, she worked as a volunteer at Lourdes Hospital and was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority.


She is survived by her son, Terry Lamar and wife, Janet of High Point; three grandchildren, Ashley Kindig and husband, Keith of Kingwood, Texas, Jesse Lamar and wife, Kimsey of Jersey City, New Jersey and Kate Lamar of Greensboro, North Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Davis, Lief and Josh of Kingwood; two sisters-in-law, June Hayden of Lone Oak and Ethel Hopkins of Duluth, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward Keith Lamar; her parents, Virgil "Bill" Hopkins and Flora Lee Washam Hopkins.

A memorial service for Bettie is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. John Smithmier and Rev. Sam Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday July 28, 2018 at the funeral home.
