Brigitte Strope

Brigitte Hedwig Meutzner Strope, 82, of Paducah, died Tuesday, March 3,2015 at Lourdes Hospital.
Brigitte was born in Dresden, Germany on May 11, 1932 to the late Willy and Hedwig Hartmann Meutzner. Her family moved to Berlin during the war, which is where she met her eventual husband, Frederick William Strope, at a German-American Christian Youth Group. They married twice in Germany in 1954, both spiritually before the church and legally before the Justice of the Peace. After moving to the states, Brigitte was a high school educator who taught second languages of German, English and French. She also translated a book from German to English. She was an active member of First Christian Church of Paducah. Her passion was the charity "Hearts for Babies", where she knitted outfits and blankets for newborn children. She was a courageous woman who was a breast cancer survivor.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Fred Strope; daughter, Marianne Roof and husband, Gene of Paducah; and was known as "Oma" by her four grandchildren, Shawn Roof and wife Kelly, Eric Roof, Jonathan Roof, and Jacqueline Roof.
Preceding her in death was her brother, Hans Meutzner; and her parents.
Memorial services will be held at 1pm Saturday at Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Rev. J. Gottman officiating. A private burial will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 11am Saturday at the funeral home.
