Dorothy Watters

March 20, 1934 — May 22, 2017

Dorothy Runell McGowan Watters, 83, of Lovelaceville, KY, died Monday, May 22, 2017 at Lourdes Hospital.

Dorothy was born in Cunningham, KY on March 20, 1934 to Robert Augustus McGowan and Euva Katherine Moyers McGowan. After marrying her husband, John, on February 3, 1951, they lived primarily in Missouri as John followed his career with McDonnell Douglas. While living in Warrenton, MO, they owned and operated Warrenton Dairy Store. After moving to Lovelaceville after John's retirement, they were the original owners of J & D Market, which remained in the family for several years. Dorothy was a longtime and faithful member of Lovelaceville Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World. A bingo fanatic, she traveled the senior circuit to play free bingo, oftentimes scheduling important appointments around her bingo games. Dorothy was a caregiver by nature, frequently mowing the yard of family and neighbors just to help them out. In addition, she was a devoted collector and fan of auctions, attending the Phyllis Ham Auction every Saturday. Not satisfied with just being a participant in the auction, Dorothy spent countless hours in advance helping to organize the items and assist the auctioneer.

She is survived by her husband, John William Watters; two daughters, Debra Rhea Watters (Jerry) Raines of Lovelaceville and Lisa Runell Watters (Ted) Williams; grandchildren, Jeremy Lee Raines, Angela Marie Raines Isaac, Margaret Runell Williams, Robert T. Williams, Emma Katherine Williams, Jada Mae Williams and John Julian Williams; and great-grandchildren, Lucy Raines, Emily Raines, Jack Raines, Evelyn Williams and Lincoln Isaac. She was known as "Dot" by her siblings, sisters, Robbie McGowan Upshaw of Paducah and Sue McGowan Duncan of Lowes. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene McGowan and Paul McGowan.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Paducah with Brother Jerry Dry officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will begin at 11am Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Lovelaceville Baptist Church, 253 North Broadway, Lovelaceville, KY 42060.
