Grace LaNell Barron Smith, 88, of Paducah, died Friday, January 5, 2018 at Superior Care Home.

LaNell was born in McComb, Mississippi on May 18, 1929 to Wallis P. "Dick" Barron and Hassie M. Kornegay Barron. She was a longtime and dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Her career began at Union Carbide before embarking on a career in education. While at Paducah Tilghman High School, LaNell served as registrar and librarian. Her career continued at Paducah Public School System at the Board of Education. After retirement, she enjoyed tending her flowers and bird watching, particularly hummingbirds.

She is survived by her loving family, children Wallace Edwin "Eddie" Smith and wife Sue of Paducah and James Keith Smith and wife Carolyn of Paducah; grandchildren, Jennifer "Jenny" Elizabeth James, Leslie Ann Knight, Daniel Keith Smith, and Sara Allyson Smith; great-grandchildren, Huxley Eleanor Smith and Brayden Isaiah James.

Preceding her in death were her husband, James Edwin Smith; twin sister, LaVell Barron Kortz; grandson, James Matthew Smith; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Engle officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Monday evening at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah and after noon Tuesday at the church.
