Henry William Lentz, 82, of Paducah died at 9:20 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2007, at Western Baptist Hospital.
Mr. Lentz was born in Salisbury, North Carolina and was a resident of Paducah for over 50 years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, and was awarded the Army Commendation Ribbon for meritorious service in the Aleutian Islands in 1945 and 1946.
Lentz, a C.P.A., retired from Williams, Williams, and Lentz in 1991. He and brothers Ralph and Leon Williams formed a partnership in 1957 and grew the firm steadily over the next 3 decades. Today it is one of the region's largest accounting firms.
In 1968, Lentz was elected to the Board of Directors of Computer Services, Inc., and became Chairman of the Board one year later. He held this position until 1981 when he was elected Chairman of the Executive Committee, and served on the Board for 22 years until his retirement in 1990.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gwendolyn Comley Lentz; four children, Henry William Lentz Jr. and Carol Ann Keeling (Mike) of Paducah, Robin Croog of West Hartford, Connecticut and Cherry Saenger (Paul) of Asheville, North Carolina. He also leaves nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Lentz Lake (Wendell) of Madison, Wisconsin, William Slayden Lentz of Lexington, Kentucky, Molly and Rebecca Croog of West Hartford, Connecticut, Chris, Robert, and Aaron Saenger of Asheville, North Carolina, Lee Keeling of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Chloe Keeling of Paducah, Kentucky.
His parents were Karl Alexander and Bessie Wiggs Lentz. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2007, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Lynn Shurley officiating. Entombment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
