Ivor Ottway

Ivor J. Ottway, 89, of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away at 3:55 PM on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at his home.

Born in Princeton, KY, November 4, 1928, he and his parents moved to Paducah in 1940. Following a brief move to Eddyville, the family returned to Paducah where Ivor graduated from Reidland High School in 1946.

Ivor joined the Army Aircorp when he was 17. Basic training was in San Antonio, TX. He attended radio mechanic school at Scott Airforce base in Bellville, IL, where he later became an instructor. He served three years in the Air Force and one year in the Michigan Air National Guard.

Mr. Ottway was a member of Victory Assembly Worship Center of Paducah. His faith sustained him throughout his life, and he left a legacy for his family to follow.

A master welder and pipefitter, Mr. Ottway was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 184. An artist in his own right, many friends and family cherish the handmade wooden bowls, carvings, toys, and furniture he crafted over the years.

Mr. Ottway is survived by his youngest brother, Harry A. Ottway of Paducah; his oldest son, Richard V. (Vince) Ottway and wife Janie of Paducah; a son, Bruce A. Ottway of Murray; a daughter, Gale A. Grisham and husband J. Robert (Bob) Grisham of Paducah; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard V. Ottway and Kitty May Palmer Ottway; his wife, Betty Lou Vancil Ottway; brother, Leonard L. Ottway; sister, Carol Ottway; granddaughter, Amanda Jane Ottway; and niece, Sherri Ottway Durand.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Hughes Funeral Home in Paducah with Gary DeRossett and Bob Grisham officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Paducah.

Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be sent to the missions fund at Victory Assembly Worship Center, 1345 N Friendship Road, Paducah, KY, 42001, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/tribute.
