James A Smith

James Almus Smith of Paducah, Kentucky passed from this life on January 1, 2024, at the age of 82.


He was born November 9, 1941, in Hammond, Indiana to Almus Price Smith and Genova Pearl Elliott Smith.   He was raised in Lowes, Kentucky and was a member of the Lowes High School class of 1959. He graduated with a master’s degree from Murray State University. He had a 30-year career in sales with the Glidden Paint Company. Upon his retirement from Glidden he pursued a career in commercial real estate that lasted 20 years. Jim was a member of Heartland Church. He also was a Toastmaster and a Gideon. He will be remembered for his love of people, zest for life, pursuit of knowledge and his wonderful sense of humor.  


Surviving is his wife of 23 years, Karen Smith, two stepdaughters Krista Claflin (Claude) of Big Pine Key, Florida and Katelin Galligher (Nathan) of McEwen, Tennessee, nine step grandchildren and one step great grandchild; a sister Evelyn Hammonds of Paducah; a brother John (Patricia) of Tennessee and many loved nieces and nephews.


He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Bill Smith and sister-in-law Donna Smith.


Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, January 5, 2024 at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Dr. Nathan Joyce officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Paducah.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 to the service hour at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 5, 2024 at the Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
