James Mitchell

August 7, 1943 — January 3, 2017

James "Jim" Mitchell age 73, of Lone Oak passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 8:53 a.m. at Baptist Health Paducah. Jim was a lifelong member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and such a big influence on the younger generation of the church.

Jim was born August 7, 1943 to the late James Victor Mitchell Sr & Lucille Beatrice Slinker Mitchell in Lebanon, KY. Family moved to Paducah in early 1950's when father started working at the Atomic Plant. Jim attended Lone Oak High School where he graduated in 1961 and later returned after retirement as a counselor and mentor for students.

Jim graduated from Murray State University in 1965 where he received a bachelor degree , masters degree, 30 hours above in education. He began his teaching career in 1965 at Heath High School where he taught Math, Physics and Chemistry for 11 years. In 1976, Jim became principal of Reidland Middle School where he retired after 18 years of service.

Jim had many hobbies including, fishing with close friends, taking his family on summer vacations including an Alaskan cruise, Panama Canal, and Europe with the Boys Choir. Jim also loved to build items in his workshop at home. He had a great love for golf with his sons and buddies and was a proud member of Rolling Hills Country Club where he also built his home.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sammie Faye Hughes Mitchell; two sons Mark (Brandy) Mitchell and their children, Emma Mitchell, Jake Mitchell, Brandon Morehead, Marlee Morehead; Jon (Renee) Mitchell and their son, Davis Mitchell; two brothers, Todd Mitchell, Paducah, KY, Jamie (Mona) Mitchell, Woodbury, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tim Mitchell.

Services will be held Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Revs. Dan Summerlin & Mike Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel Milner & Orr Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers expression of sympathy may be made to Lone Oak First Baptist Church, 3601 Lone Oak Road, Paducah, KY 42001 or to the John Robinson Scholarship Fund, 3240 Lone Oak Road Box 203,
