Mary Slusmeyer

Mary Era Gillahan Slusmeyer, 89, of Paducah, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Life Care Center in LaCenter, KY.
Mary was born on August 13, 1927 in Ledbetter to the late M.R. "Beck" Gillahan and Lois Mays GIllahan. She remarked that in her lifetime she had watched the building and destruction of two bridges across the Tennessee River. Described by her family as a doting mother and grandmother, Mary loved to aggravate her grandsons but also would cook their favorite meal at their request. She loved her garden and tending her vegetables, sewing and quilting, and supporting her UK Wildcats in basketball. She was a longtime member of Olivet Baptist Church.
Surviving are her children, Kay Sutton of Gage, KY and Clay Slusmeyer (Michelle) of Hickory, KY; grandchildren, Jamie (TyAnn) Sutton of Elkhart, IN, John (Tonya) Sutton of Gage, KY, Savanah Jackson of Graves County, Zach Tynes of Graves County, Josh (Melissa) Massey of British Columbia, Canada, and Zach (Jessica) Massey of Bowling Green, KY; twin sister, Vera Brown of Paducah; son-in-law, Jimmy Massey of Lenoir City, TN; and eleven great-grandchildren with one great-granddaughter on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Slusmeyer; daughter, Rebecca Ann Massey; sister, Zethel Sanders; brother, Jim Gillahan; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday at Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Drew Gray, John Sutton, and James Sutton officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will begin at 11am Monday at the funeral home.
