Phyllis D. Smith, 85 of Granite City passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in Granite City.

Phyllis was born on October 11, 1930 in Granite City; a daughter of the late Allen C. and Alice M. (Smith) Whitaker. She was a banker for over 30 years at First National Bank, Regions Bank and Magna Bank. Phyllis was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Granite City and in her free time she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by and will be missed by her son; Edward W. and (Penny) Ames of Collins, MO; her daughter, Tamra Smith of Granite City; grandsons, Brian and (Bonnie) Ames of Collins, MO, Jayson Smith and (Amber) of O'Fallon, IL; great-grandchildren, Jordan Richard, Bevin Ames, Zachary Ames, Ashley Ames, Corey Ames, Kelsy Farmer, Kaylee Farmer, Kenyon Smith, Kylie Smith; sisters, JoAnn and (Chuck) King, Betty Stearns.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband; Charles T. Smith, whom she married on October 16, 1954; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Ames; her sister, Vincinetta Taylor; her brother, Allen C. Whitaker Jr.

Friends may call on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life, services will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Clint Wisdom officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Paducah, KY at 3:00 p.m. Memorials in memory of Carolyn can be made to the American Diabetes Association or Calvary Methodist Church in Mayfield, KY.
