Vernon Cleatus Douglas, 101, died at 12:40 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Emeritus Assisted Living. Vernon was a native of Crystal, TN, and was born on December 29, 1913 to the late John R. Douglas and Bessie Douglas. Vernon was a member of Paducah First Baptist Church, retired employee of Union Carbide with 26 years (1952-1979) as a Cascade Operator. He worked for 17 years as fabric cutter for Normandy Frocks in Paducah.
Survivors include one daughter, Clara Faye Downs of Paducah, KY; one son, Jerry Vernon Douglas and wife, Shirley of Louisville, KY; four grandchildren, Keith Downs and wife, Marcia, Doug Downs and wife, Jeannie, both of Paducah, KY, Brad Downs and wife, Betty, of Kevil, KY, and Chad Douglas and fiancee' Suzanne of Louisville, KY; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Preceding in death was his wife, Jerlene Bogard Douglas, and his parents.
Services will be held Monday, March 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Revs. Tommy Tucker and Russ Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The Douglas family will receive friends on Monday, March 30, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. until service time of 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff at Emeritus Assisted Living and also Lourdes Hospice for the special care they provided. A special thanks is extended to his nurses with Professional Care Management who provided loving care for the past eighteen months and became like family to him and his family.
